Camp update. They had their all-around competition today with Shawn and Nastia placing 1 and 2, of course. Lots of drama beyond that! Our girl Bridget popped out of the shadows and finished third with four nice events. I'd have liked her score to be higher on bars to feel positive she'll be on team (it was good but not flashy), but she definitely was the top performer of the non-confirmed team members yet. Sam finished fourth with some struggles but no falls. Bridget beat her or tied her in every event, interestingly! Alicia was fine, not sharp as she could be but definitely on the team, IMO. Chellsie Memmel stopped in the middle of her floor routine when she landed funny at the end of her floor tumble, and she chose not to compete vault and bars. She came back with a great beam, though, so she's probably okay. We can't afford to lose her! We did lose Shayla. She's one of the ones who were in the mix for Spot #6, remember? Coming back from a back injury? Before the comp started, she felt something pop in her soar right leg. She has a fracture in her fibula and is out. Jana, who had been consistent, did okay but fell on bars. Ivana was steady and outscored Bridget by .1 on bars, but she isn't the most spectacular anywhere. Soooo, 100% definites (even though they weren't flawless) are still Nastia and Shawn. Looking incredibly secure is Alicia. Secure if healthy is Chellsie. Sam is probably still okay, though she should do better tomorrow. Bridget has thrown herself right back in the thick of things. If she does well tomorrow, she very well could be it. I'd say Sam and Bridget are the least secure, though Chellsie's muscle pull or whatever was scary. No one fell completely out of the mix except for Shayla. Write to me via e-mail if you want some more personal reactions or insights. They compete two events tomorrow night and receive the selection news after 7:15 Eastern Time.
Ted, we love the uniform. So, as well as doing the interview thing, you'll also be selling ice cream?? really neat.
